PUNE CITY police have launched a probe after decomposing bodies of a young couple in their early 20s were found in their rented Lohegaon apartment on Monday morning. Police said that while the 23-year-old husband was found hanging with his hands tied, the 20-year-old wife lay lifeless on the bed.

Officials from Vimantal police station said the deceased Kiran Mahadev Bobade (23) worked on contract basis with Indian Post, while his wife Aarti Kiran Bobade (21) was employed at a private bank. The exact details on the nature of their jobs at the respective organisations were not known.

“On Monday morning, locals alerted the police control room about a foul smell emanating from an apartment in a society on the road from Lohegaon to Vadgaon Shinde. Police came to check the place at around 11 am, and found that the resident couple had not opened their door for the past two–three days. Police broke open the door to the flat in the presence of the flat owner, and found the husband hanging to a hook in the ceiling while the wife lay dead on the bed. Both bodies were decomposing,” said an officer from the Vimantal police station.

A senior police officer said, “Initial investigation points to no forced entry into the house. All doors and windows are locked from inside. The husband’s hands were tied together in front with a rope. It is difficult to point to a prima facie cause of the wife’s death.
