October 14 marks this year’s National Cinema Day where tickets for films across many theatres in the country will be available for Rs 99 and it seems like the drop in ticket prices will be beneficial to films like Mission Raniganj, Fukrey 3, Dhak Dhak, and will add to the already high collection of Jawan. While Fukrey 3 has been enjoying a great run at the cinemas for 15 days now, the drop in the ticket prices could potentially help Akshay Kumar-starrer Mission Raniganj.
The Akshay Kumar film released in theatres on October 6 and after being in the theatres for a week, the film has only managed to make Rs 18.25 crore so far, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. On Thursday, which was its seventh day in the cinemas, the Tinu Suresh Desai film made Rs 1.3 crore. Mission Raniganj’s box office response has been lukewarm so far and Akshay Kumar, in a recent interview, addressed the audience’s response to the film but added that this was one of the best films of his career so far.
“It is not a commercial film. It has not earned as much as it should have earned. But, I have come here knowing that the film has not done well, to own the film- and I have done some 150 films by now-and say that this is one of my best films,” he told Times Now Navbharat.
Fukrey 3, on the other hand, which has been in the theatres for 15 days now had a surprisingly strong start at the box office as it made Rs 8.82 crore on its opening day. After 15 days in the theatre, the film has made Rs 81.24 crore nett in the domestic market. On the 15th day, the film made Rs 1 crore. It appears that the drop in ticket prices on October 13 could boost its collections ahead of its third weekend. As per the makers, the film has already sold over 1 lakh tickets on National Cinema Day. With no major releases on Friday, Fukrey 3 could have a big weekend again. Fukrey 3’s worldwide gross collection currently stands at Rs 107.7 crore.
